Halo co-creator and Battlefield game director Marcus Letho has left EA and Ridgeline Games in a quiet resignation/layoff. Letho’s departure has not been publicly announced and he has not commented on what he will do next.
What will happen to the Battlefield franchise if Letho leaves?
Seattle-based Ridgeline Games, which Letho headed, was an EA studio dedicated to the Battlefield series. Recently, however, Letho’s social media bio and LinkedIn profile show that he has removed all ties to Battlefield and EA, stating that he is leaving EA.
Ridgeline Games’ career site has no job listings, and the studio’s co-founder and art director Chris Matthews left the studio in January 2024 to join Destiny developer Bungie.
Letho’s departure was not officially announced and he did not comment on his next steps. But the departure has Battlefield fans wondering about the future of the series. Letho was thought to have been brought in to steer the series after Battlefield 2042’s lackluster performance. Similarly, EA has not made an official statement about Letho’s departure.
Despite criticism of Battlefield 2042, DICE is thought to be able to do what it has done so successfully in the past with Battlefield 4 and then Battlefront 2. 2042 was also released incomplete, but was later updated and fixed to an acceptable state.
EA has been contacted about the issue, but they have not made a response at the moment. What do you think? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
